How Scent Bytes Was Born

By the Curator-in-Chief

Scent Bytes was born in April 2025 during a moment of unraveling. The kind of moment that either buries you or becomes your beginning. I had just been laid off. And while the world kept spinning, I chose to follow the thread that had been with me since childhood: scent.

Perfume has always been more than fragrance to me. As someone with autism and synesthesia*, scent is a multi-sensory experience, immersive, and all-consuming. I either fall into a scent completely… or can’t even tolerate a sniff. There’s hardly any in-between. That intensity, that total sensory involvement, is what makes perfume sacred to me.

*Synesthesia is a neurological trait where stimulation of one sense leads to involuntary experiences in another. For me, scents evoke colors, textures, and even mouth shapes — making every fragrance a layered story.

But the world of fragrance has become loud. Overhyped. Oversaturated. Everyone was selling something, but no one was curating meaning. I wanted to create the brand I needed:

  • One that values discovery over status

  • Celebrates artisans instead of mass production

  • And offers people a space to explore quietly, safely, FOMO free, without the pressure of trends or labels

That’s how Scent Bytes was born. Not just a brand, but a movement.

A Legacy Built on Roots

My ethnic background is a blend of ancient origins, from the Horn of Africa through the Levant. My ancestors didn’t just wear perfume; they invented it. They traded frankincense, myrrh, and spice long before modern perfumery had a name. This connection to scent isn’t a hobby for me, it’s ancestral! It’s encoded in me.

More Than a Brand

Scent Bytes is for discerning fragrance explorers — those drawn to subtle elegance, quiet luxury, and evocative storytelling. It’s not about trends or clout, but about cultivating connection through scent. Those who want a space to pause, inhale, and truly experience a scent.

I also created Scent Bytes to be the kind of company I always wished I could work for - one that honors loyalty, uplifts individuality, and values people as much as product. I wanted to build a space where creatives and clients alike could feel seen, respected, and inspired. Where being yourself isn't just accepted…it's the point.

I’m building this as something I could pass on to my children and my community. I wanted to prove that fragrance isn’t just fashion or vanity. It’s data. It’s identity. It’s legacy.

A Name with Meaning

The name Scent Bytes is a nod to my background in threat intelligence. In that world, every byte of data tells a story, often hidden, often subtle. Fragrance works the same way. Each note is a byte of memory, a signal waiting to be decoded. Scent Bytes bridges my two great passions: scent and signals.

What Comes Next

This isn’t fast beauty. This is curation. A slow, thoughtful process. If you’re reading this, you’re already part of it, a node in the network. A hidden ruby in the making.

Welcome to Scent Bytes.
